U.S. Route 69 and Farm-to-Market Roads 2137, 2493, and 344 intersect here, about 15 miles (24 km) south of the city of Tyler. Its population was 2,463 at the 2010 census, up from 1,150 at the 2000 census; by 2020, its population was 3,318. The town of Bullard is situated in a valley of the Red River. Bullard's first settlers were French trappers and traders. When they passed through this place, they found buffalo and deer along with the Spanish settlement of New San Felipe de Austin. After the War of 1812, most of the trappers and hunters left the area. The United States government decided to build a road between Marshall County and the rest of the nation.
